The funds donated by VME through the "VME Coop Sponsorship initiative" will be used to help provide "Warmup" hoodies for the team to use during football training.

THE SPARTANS WAY

Spartans FC, are a registered charity based in Edinburgh, Scotland and The welfare of the child comes first.

Their aim is to provide the opportunity for children and young people to play football in a safe environment, and to be treated as such - not as small adults.

Children should be given a fair chance to participate, compete and win. As a club Spartan's 2010s constantly seek to stretch and challenge the abilities of the players with the aim of developing them to play football at the highest level. Players are expected to be punctual, have good standards of behaviour and be ready to listen, learn and practise.

Participation at all times is encouraged with an emphasis on skill development, athleticism and the development of the child socially as well as in a sporting context. Their aim is for players to learn life skills and strong values for later life.

A win at all costs attitude is discouraged - competition is encouraged but not to the detriment of the development of skill, speed, stamina, strength and suppleness.

PLAYER PATHWAY

Spartans FC Youth work in Partnership with the Scottish Youth FA to follow the Player Pathway which takes a player-centered approach to developing the football potential of a young child

The pathway is progressive, coherent and challenging. At Spartans FC Youth we follow the pathway carefully and don’t fast forward or miss out any of the development stages.

The boys squads play Fun 4s at U8, Super 5s at U9, Soccer Sevens at U10 & U11 and 9-aside at U12. From U13 and up, their squads move to 11-aside games and they have teams at each age group U13, 14, 15, 16, 17 & 19.

The girls section operates from U9s to U17s. Playing 4s at U9, 7s at U11 & U13, 9s at U13 and 11-aside at U15 & U17.

Spartans ultimate aim is to produce players for their Adult teams and beyond.

Spartans 2010's football team - Edinburgh Cup winners 2023!

2010s Spartans Youth squad took part in the Edinburgh Cup on the 4th, 5th & 6th August 2023 looking to improve on last years Plate final success.

The tournament was treated like a pre season event, with a competitive edge and allowed us to get back playing again after a good break in the summer.

Their group consisted of 6 teams – Almaden (USA), Bayside, Caledonian Youth Club, Pars Foundation, Peterhead & Spartans Youth

First up on Friday for the Spartans was Almaden, an early look at the opponents suggested they had a mix of older players and 2010s in their squad, and in a competitive match Spartans lost 3-0, plenty of positives were taken from the game from their view and despite the loss we competed well with them and continued to try to play out from the back. In the older the Americans ran out deserved winners.

Up next were Bayside, a team the Spartans were familiar with, having played them in a friendly at Easter time and who are joining the Seryfa D1 league this season. Right from the off the boys knocked the ball about well and looked like they wanted to get some points on the board. After a frustrating time in front of goal The Spartans broke the deadlock with a penalty well taken from Thomas, and soon after a smart finish from Ahmed and a rocket from Rui got them 3 points and a good clean sheet.

The last game on Friday was an entertaining match against new opposition to the Spartans (Peterhead). The boys started well and within 12 mins were 4 up with 2 for Finlay, a penalty from Owen and another by Ahmed. 3 more points, some excellent football and another clean sheet for Rocco in goals. Day 2 ended with the Spartans in 2nd place with 6 points

Saturday brought a different set of challenges for the Spartans, heavy rain was non stop and the grass pitches the teams were on weren’t taking the rain so well.

The first game on Saturday was against another new team "Caledonian Youth Club". Despite the conditions overhead and underfoot, both sides continued to bring the ball out from the back and not long into the game, and the Spartans once again found themselves 4-0 to the good with goals from Owen x 2, Thomas and Finlay. 3 more points on the board, some excellent football and another clean sheet

Last game was played against a spirited "Pars" side who battled hard, and again tried to play from the back. Adam then Owen got the Spartans into a 2 goal lead, Pars pulled one back through a decent move before we piled on a bit of pressure with goals from Thomas, Max and Rui to cap a 5-1 win in the heavy rain and put the Spartans on 12 points to sit comfortably in 2nd Place.

On Sunday, the Spartans faced Irish side "Dungarven United" in the final on a much drier grass pitch at Peffermill. The Spartans settled the better of the 2 sides and created a few chances early on in the game but couldn’t find a break through. Just before half time Owen was brought down in the box and picked himself up to slot home and go in at HT 1 up. 2nd half Dungarven settled better, and the game was much more end to end, like all the other games both sides tried to keep the ball down and move it across the pitch. An entertaining 2nd half though and with the last kick of the game Finlay rattled in a cracker from distance to put the Spartans 2 goals up and Trophy winners.

Overall it was a successful tournament for the Spartans to get some game time under our belts with everybody contributing and another medal to add to their collection.

Thanks again to the organizers of the Edinburgh cup and good to see so many other Spartans age groups taking part.
