Vme Coop's Teambuilding event for the Scotland Office

Oct 18, 2023

Go Kart Racing at the well known "Larkhall circuit"

The VME COOP Team based in Scotland had a teambuilding afternoon out which consisted of Go-karting, followed by Dinner at a local Toby Carvery.

The following members of VME COOP (Scotland) attended:
Dave Martindale Scott Coyle, Chris Brown, Chris Proctor, William Burbidge, Mike Buchanan, Stuart Ferguson, Callum Wilson and Caillin Campsie.

The Go-karting experience was held a well renowned local circuit called "Larkhall" which is just outside Glasgow and the VME Scotland team experienced a "Super Grand Prix" which was made up of a 15 minute practice session in order to get a layout and understanding of the track, and then 3 x 10 minute heats in which Points are accumulated throughout the various heats, and your position on the grid depended where you finished in the previous heat.

During the practice session it was dry, but as soon as the actual heats started, it began to rain which made the track extremely slippery and hard to keep control of the karts, especially going around corners. So there was alot of drifting/sliding around, which also resulted in a number of spinouts and crashes between the competitors.

Eventually after the 3 heats and competition was over, the Podium standings were as follows:

1st Place - Callum Wilson (SCO)
2nd Place - Chris Proctor (SCO)
3rd Place - Mike Buchanan (ENG)

After the Go-karting experience was finished, the team made their way to a Toby Carvery for a well earned meal.

Using Sociocracy for decision-making re. Teambuilding events

Ever since VME became a worker owned "Co-op", VME has implemented the Sociocracy model, meaning that that every employee has the opportunity to be involved in the company’s decision-making.
The decision-making is done in what Sociocracy calls "Circles", and during the election process of new circle terms, members are invited to nominate themselves to join the circle, and if there are more circle applicants, than there are, seats in the circled. Then all of the VME workers have the ability to vote for the person they would like to see democratically elected to that circle.

The Scotland Social Circle currently consists of Chris Brown, Dave Martindale & Scott Coyle
